Evo
The Brief

The right to breathe; how can we ensure everyone living with poor air quality are guaranteed their right to clean air? As part of the design briefs and competitions module we participated in the RSA design competition.
The Solution

Evo is a campaign that encourages employees to participate in a cycle to work scheme. Companies will sign up to the campaign and in turn allow their employees to redeem their Evo Bicycle. The platform costs the employers but for employees the bike and application are free, in order to keep their bike free they must reach a goal each week.

They will have a unique qr code tailored to them on their bike - this allows the bike to be identified quickly but also can be used for repairs, safeguarding and pairing. The camera in app can be used to scan the qr code before a ride, once the ride has finished and it has been completed on the app the user can review their stats.
The RSA brief encouraged me to research around pollution and its many forms and effects. It also stipulated that I should assess the pollution within third world countries and why they aren’t able to access clean air.

My research took focus on air pollution from cars, I also looked into the air quality monitoring methods used across the world. I also researched the different types of pollutants in the air and their effects on the human body. I found that NOX was a frequent pollutant, the pollutant that comes from car engines. This led me to creating Evo as I considered how we could minimise the pollutants that comes from car engines.
Public transport and lift sharing was another approach to minimising the pollutants from cars, but in order to reach the target audience I had to consider lower income houses and low cost options for the end users. The bikes are also electric in order to encourage those with lower fitness levels or ability issues to get involved too.
The user can create a profile under their company which will allow them to view and access their co workers achievements. They can also compete with them in the leaderboard section on the app, this will reset each month and the winning employee can redeem a reward from a range of sustainability inspired prizes.

In their profile the user can view the bikes statistics such as its battery percentage, top speed, total riding time and bikes watt power. Users will also get a reminder when their bike has low battery.
